Composite materials manufacturing · Project

Katana MRP for a moldless composites manufacturer

Bespline curves composite material without building a mould, for architecture, marine and aeronautics. LevelOps implemented Katana MRP.

The need

One-off production, by design

Bespline's adaptive molding system forms a shape straight from a CAD file, which removes the tooling cost that normally makes a single custom part uneconomic. That is a deliberate business model built on one-off and short-run production across architecture, marine, aeronautics and one-off innovation projects. It is also the hardest thing to plan: when almost every job is unique, the bill of material is new each time and standard repeat-production logic does not apply.

  • Engineered to order across four quite different sectors
  • A new bill of material for most jobs rather than a repeating recipe
  • Materials ranging from foam cores and wood veneers to flax fibre and stone

Questions about the Bespline engagement

What does this page cover?

What Bespline needed, the scope of the engagement and the systems implemented, which were Katana MRP. It is an implementation record rather than a measured case study.

Why are there no numbers on the outcome?

Because we did not measure them. Publishing a gain we never instrumented would be inventing one, so the page records what was done and stops there.

Could you do the same for us?

Likely, if you are on comparable systems. Describe your situation through the contact page and say what you already run, and we will tell you whether Katana MRP is the right starting point.

How does this relate to the Shopify app?

Implementation work puts the management system in place. PDF to Order handles the step before it, getting orders that arrive as documents into the system. Some clients have both, many have only one.

Can we speak to Bespline?

Ask through the contact page. We check with the client before passing on any contact, so it depends on what they agree to.

Planning the same kind of project?

Tell us what you run today and what is breaking. We will tell you whether the system you are considering is the right one, before anyone signs anything.
